Oral Health For Kids Starts With Flossing
At Dr. B’s Dentistry for Children we specialize in keeping your kids’ mouths healthy and clean. We educate patient families, practice preventative care and address kids oral health problems as they arise. It is our pleasure to see you when you come into the office, and we love watching your little ones walk out with a smile. Dr. Baggaley can help during appointments, but most of the work takes place at home. We want to remind parents to make sure your kids are flossing their teeth on a regular basis.
A toothbrush is an invaluable tool but it has its limitations. It cannot reach between teeth or under the gums. We recommend flossing before you brushing. Flossing dislodges food particles and plaque that would otherwise hinder the maximal benefits of brushing. With obstructions removed, fluoride toothpaste can reach between the teeth and promote optimal oral health for kids.
If plaque is allowed to build up between the teeth it will eventually become tartar. Only a dentist can remove this with a scraper and tartar buildup can lead to gingivitis (inflammation of gums, the first stage of gum disease).
We all know that tooth and gum disease may discolor teeth, cause discomfort and create unpleasant breath. However, did you know that it also affects your entire physical health? Recent studies have shown that kids poor oral health upkeep can decrease wellness in other organs and body systems, including the heart and brain.
At Dr. B’s office we take kids oral health seriously. With our gentle touch and expertise in pediatric dentistry, we are always ready to effectively support our patients in achieving the best results possible. We ask you, our patient parents, to team up with us in our efforts to help your children. The most cost effective tools you can use daily are a soft-bristled toothbrush and a box of floss.
